【Meeting for Enjoying Akita’s Sake in Tokyo】

The popular event hosted by Akita Sake Brewers Association and held in Tokyo around March every year, “Meeting for Enjoying Akita’s Sake”, will be held at Shinagawa Goos on 9th March 2016. From 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, “Meeting for Tasting Akita’s Sake” will be held only for sake retailers, restaurants, and the people concerned with sake. After that from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, “Meeting for enjoying Akita’s Sake” will be held for general consumers. You can enjoy not only 26 brands of Akita’s sake and delicious cuisine, but also the dance performance of “Akita Maiko” which is hot topic in Akita and the performance of “Sake Brewer’s Song” …

New sake of this season has been produced and new Sakabayashi (Sugitama) is hung at the entrance of Sen-nin brewery! Sakabayashi is a large ornamental ball made of trimmed fresh green Japanese cedar branches. In the olden days, hanging Sakabayashi under the eaves out the front of a brewery was the signal to announce that new sake had been made to customers. This custom has been still practiced in the sake breweries. Sakabayashi which is newly hung is fresh and green like the photo, but its color gradually changes to brown as maturing process of stored sake progresses. Now is the best season for new sake. 【The Second Akita Sake Café Event is for ladies! 】

“Akita Sake Cafe in Tokyo” which was held at Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo on 4th September was a huge success. The second event will be already held soon! The second “Akita Sake Cafe” is special event only for ladies. It will be held at Bellsalle Shiodome, Tokyo, on Friday, November 6th. 18 sake breweries from Akita prefecture will gather again, and Akita’s local dishes preferred by ladies will be also served. 【Akita Brewing Festival 2015】

One of a popular event in autumn, “Akita Brewing Festival” will be held on October 24 -25 under the auspices of Junior Chamber International Akita. This event has been held annually and it will be 5th time this year. 【Takashimizu History ~The Beginning of 12 Breweries “Kikusui”~】

Takashimizu history began in 1944 after merging of 12 small breweries during World War Ⅱ. In this column, we will trace the history of 12 breweries which are the foundation of current Takashimizu one by one. We will introduce “Kikusui” this time. “Kikusui” has the longest history among 12 breweries and it is said that its start was in 1655 or 1656. “Kikuya” was their family name and they brewed sake under the brand name “Kikusui” about for 290 years and its sake received great evaluation at various competitions. 【The Annual Company Event in July】

The annual company event “Hatsu-Nomikiri” was held on July 24th! “Hatsu-Nomikiri” is an unique event of brewery and we evaluate the quality and degree of maturation of all sake which was brewed in last winter and stored in the tank. On that day, 216 bottles brewed from head office brewery and 119 bottles brewed from Goshono brewery were evaluated. The number of tanks storing sake are 107 (Head office: 87, Goshono: 20), increased 11 more than last year. 【Brewery After Brewers Gone…】

Autumn, winter, and spring. After the very lively and busy brewing season, all brewers went back to their hometown, and brewery is surrounded by silence in the summertime. Every brewed sake has been pasteurized and aging gently in the tanks during the summer. Even in hot summer season, brewery is kept really cool and best place for napping. It is really comfortable for both sake and human!
